It is often the first behavior we teach dogs and puppies because it is an easy behavior to teach, practice, and works for so many scenarios. Every dog and owner have different situations and obstacles, so sometimes it can take a little bit of thinking outside the box if they are not catching on immediately. How to Teach Your Dog to 'Sit'
Training your dog to sit is usually pretty easy and works for young and older dogs. First, grab a treat to get your dog's attention. Then, move your hand up and a bit back over their head. This will make them look up and sit. When your dog sits, quickly say "yes" and/or use a clicker, and give the treat as a reward for doing it correctly. Having a clicker and treats ready is super important for training. Always reward your dog when they do something you like.

Once your dog gets what you want when you show them, it's time to use your voice. Saying 'sit' becomes more than just a word; it tells your dog to stop and listen. Practice a lot, and your dog will link the word 'sit' to the action, showing just how smart they are.
